As much as we may not want it to, eventually our time at The Beach must come to an end. When that day comes, active members make the transition to alumnus status.

The chapter hosts several alumni events each semester to welcome back the men who came before us. Some of the common events include alumni BBQs, poker nights, fishing trips, and school athletic events. In the fall, the Southern California Alumni Association (which includes the Long Beach, USC, Fullerton, and Riverside chapters) hosts a Founder’s Day banquet open to all active and associate members as well as alumni from those chapters. Every Labor Day weekend, Long Beach Chapter alumni, their families, and active chapter members gather to float down the Kern River.

The benefits of keeping in touch with our alumni are numerous. Most importantly it gives the chapter a sense of perspective when making long-term plans. They have been through most everything we have to deal with and they can give advice and feedback instead of the chapter having to try and fail. Our Alumni Board of Trustees oversees chapter operations and meets with chapter leaders monthly to go over chapter business.

Alumni also provide a great network to help find internships or jobs. We have had members graduate in just about every major offered at Long Beach. That provides us with someone we can call and talk to about professional issues. Some times the best way to get in the door of a company is to have someone you know that works there give you a reference. And our alumni base extends to all chapters, as a Delta Chi is our brother no matter where they graduated from.

The alumni base from the Long Beach chapter is extremely strong. Our alumni are well connected throughout the campus, Long Beach community, State of California, the federal government, as well as both the corporate and non-profit sectors.

Some of the more famous alumni from Delta Chi include men like Benjamin Harrison, President of the United States, Henry “Scoop” Jackson, late Senator from Washington and presidential candidate, Robert Todd Lincoln, son of President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of War, Henry Hartsfield, space shuttle commander, Richard Shelby, Senator from Alabama, John Mica, Florida Congressman, William Sessions, former Director of the FBI, and James Webb, former Secretary of Navy and Senator from Virginia.
